StEP into your working future

The Steps to Employment Project (StEP) empowers adults with disabilities — including ECHO participants, supported volunteers, and members of the local community — to explore meaningful work opportunities. Whether it’s securing a work experience placement to help you to get experience in a specific area or just to be in a professional workplace, or stepping into paid employment, StEP offers tailored support every step of the way, helping individuals build confidence, develop skills, and take positive steps toward their career goals.

Funded by the National Lottery Community Fund, the StEP will:

  • Help you to write or update your CV
  • Support you with finding jobs to apply for
  • Support you with filling in job applications
  • Build your confidence and develop your workplace skills
  • Explore different career paths based on your skills, experience and interests
  • Help you take positive steps toward employment
  • Deliver one-to-one guidance and encouragement

What to Expect from StEP

In your initial meeting, the StEP team will take time to get to know you — your skills, interests, and talents, as well as any barriers you may have faced in finding employment. This helps us tailor support to your individual journey.

At our monthly meet up you’ll take part in a series of individual and group training sessions and workshops designed to build confidence and prepare you for the workplace. These may include:

  • Mock interviews
  • Job searches and application writing
  • Workplace skills
  • Understanding professional boundaries
  • Navigating the practical, social and emotional challenges of employment

Whether you’re just starting out or looking for a new direction, StEP is here to help you take meaningful steps toward your working future — with guidance, encouragement, and opportunities every step of the way.

If you’re ready to take that next step, we’re ready to walk alongside you.
