Eaton Barn opened its gates once again for the second Spring Open Day. One year on from the official launch of the Farm Shop in 2018, visitors were welcomed back to see all the changes that have been achieved from the hard work by the dedicated team at this project.

More areas of the garden have been cleared and landscaped. A successful funding bid from the National Garden Scheme Elspeth Thompson Bursary has allowed work on the new Sandra Jones Sensory Garden to begin. This will offer a quieter seating and eating area with imaginative sensory planting. The stumpery and wildflower meadow have been created at the lower end of the site, close to the bee hives. Project Leader, Sarah, has been learning more about their care on a bee-keeping course.

The Open Day was a great success, raising over £292 in plant sales and donations. Money raised will go towards the continuing developments at the community garden for all to enjoy. The team have been busy this winter in preparation for the growing season and an impressive range of vegetable and bedding plants were on offer. More plants will be ready soon and the project is open weekdays from 10 – 4 for you to browse and buy.

Some visitors who had seen the garden last year were delighted by the changes since the previous Spring Open Day. The area in front of the farm shop had just been planted with grass seed last May, now it is a lush green lawn. Another addition is the fabulous outdoor classroom which is available for groups to hire. It makes a perfect venue for a workshop, training session or a meeting. Bring a picnic!

The next exciting event will be the Mad Hatters Tea Party on Saturday 6th July, tickets are £10 for adults to include a glass of prosecco, delicious buffet lunch and fresh strawberries all served at a long table in true Wonderland style!
