ECHO is a charity working with people with learning and physical disabilities and people with mental health issues in Herefordshire. ECHO runs 28 different activities each week in community settings across Herefordshire. ECHO is committed to providing services that promote choice, rights and independence for disabled people in Herefordshire.
We are seeking to recruit a Support Worker to work at our social enterprise furniture upcycling project, Studio Mirai Leominster on a Monday and a Friday 8.45am to 4.15pm. Studio Mirai provides community activities to adults with disabilities and or mental health issues. You will work alongside the Project Leader with a group of up to eight participants where upcycling, restoration and repair of donated items of furniture will be the focus for the Project. You will be involved in the development of the project from its current format to one in which you introduce an alternative craft activity, suited to run alongside existing Studio Mirai operations which will extend the current range of retail standard products.
You will be involved in the planning and delivery of sessions to ensure that a range of valued activities are provided for our participants. The role would involve providing practical support to our participants to ensure they are welcomed, feel safe and valued. You will help to develop their skills and try new activities to build confidence. You may need to give assistance with personal care or medication. You will be involved in keeping good records, communicating effectively, and sharing information as appropriate whilst maintaining confidentiality and data protection requirements in line with ECHO policies.
At Studio Mirai, participants are encouraged to:
- Learn furniture upcycling and basic woodworking skills.
- Learn how to work safely in a workshop environment.
- Be a team member in a work-based setting.
- Learn customer service and retail skills.
The project runs five days a week and the support worker will initially be required to work on Mondays and Fridays. Some flexibility around days worked is essential as staff meetings and training may take place on other days of the week. Additional hours will occasionally also be available to cover staff leave; these hours may be taken as overtime or as TOIL (Time Off In Lieu).
